Reduce plastic pollution~Participate in Safeway’s Plastic Bag Recycling Program
Mill Valley Safeway (on Miller Ave and in Strawberry) make it easy to recycle plastic bags and other plastic films.
- Grocery bags
- Produce bags
- Bread bags
- Dry cleaning bags
- Paper towel and toilet paper wrap
- Plastic shipping envelopes
- Case over wrap
- Air pillows and bubble wrap

Safeway transports the plastic collected to recycling centers where it is processed into new plastic bags, plastic lumber, patio furniture, and other goods
- Bags should be completely dry and free of food
- No need to remove zip ties, or stickers.
- Put them in the bin in front of Safeway
Not all plastic bags and wraps are accepted.
No degradable/compostable bags, frozen food bags or rigid plastics like bottles and clams hellsor ‘crinkly’ (cellophane) material.
When in doubt, use the ‘Stretch Test’–if you can stretch the plastic, it can be recycled:
