SWCPS

In the late 1980’s the aging clubhouse was in need of major restoration and the operating budget of the Sausalito Woman’s Club could not absorb the cost of the repairs. The Club’s Fiscal Advisory Committee recommended creation of a charitable organization to collect tax-exempt donations to preserve and maintain the clubhouse and grounds. The SWPCS was incorporated in 1990 as a non-profit corporation to fulfill this purpose.

The Architectural Liasion Committee was formed by the Club in 1992 to provide project management services for all clubhouse preservation activities as a liasion between the Club, SWCPS, architects and tradesmen.

Additionally, a permanent fund that would eventually serve as a continuous source of revenue to restore and maintain the building and garden was established in 1998 at the Marin Community Foundation. As of 2011, the SWCPS has raised over $1,000,000 that has been used to restore the building and grounds, including the new kitchen that was completed in 2007.

The Sausalito Woman’s Club Legacy Society, which is a part of the SWCPS, was inaugurated on June 25, 2010. Eighteen women were a part of the original group, which has grown since its inception. Everyone who joins the Legacy Society has designated the SWPCS in their estate plans. It is the hope that by being intentional about their estate planning, this group of Club members can make a long-lasting impact to securing the future of the historic clubhouse.
