Sausalito Woman’s Club Preservation Society presents
renowned historian Mark Anthony Wilson and his latest body of work
“Frank Lloyd Wright on the West Coast”

Sausalito Woman’s Club Preservation Society is honored to have Mark Anthony Wilson, an architectural historian, at our Sherry Hour lecture for his new book “Frank Lloyd Wright on the West Coast.   Wilson has taught seminars on historic architecture for the National Trust across the United States and this will be his 3rdtime speaking for SWCPS Sherry Hour Series. SWCPS has had the honor of his lectures on two other occasions;2009 – Julia Morgan: Architect of Beauty, and 2012 Bernard Maybeck: Architect of Elegance

“Frank Lloyd Wright on the West Coast” is a conversational media presentation and covers Wright’s work on the West Coast between 1909 and 1959  Wright designed a total of 36 structures that were built on 28 sites up and down the West Coast from Southern California to Seattle, and 34 of these buildings still stand. These include well-known structures, such as the Marin County Civic Center and Hollyhock House in Los Angeles, as well as many lesser known gems, such as the 1909 Stewart House near Santa Barbara. This comprehensive new book covers all of these sites, with nearly 200 color photos by veteran architectural photographer Joel Puliatti, and 44 archival images, many never before seen in print.

Courtesy of: Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation This is not just another survey of buildings designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, or a coffee table book with minimal information. This extensively-researched volume features fascinating background information on the clients’ relationships with Wright, including insights gleaned from the original owners’ correspondence with Wright, and interviews with them or their decedents. This book also tells the fascinating story of Frank Lloyd Wright’s “other women”, his independent-minded and strong-willed female clients on the West Coast who were able to convince Wright to make significant changes in his designs for their homes, something he was loath to do for most other clients. Thus, this book tells the human story behind Wright’s innovative West Coast body of work.
