Please  join the Preservation Society as we celebrate the SWC landmark clubhouse with an elegant evening featuring Champagne, cocktails, hand crafted appetizers, fabulous layer cakes, and an engaging and fun presentation from renowned architectural historian Karen McNeill, Ph.D.
 
Dr. McNeill is the leading expert on Julia Morgan and has published multiple articles on her including, “‘Women Who Build’: Julia Morgan & Women’s Institutions,”  Her work focuses on women and gender in the architectural profession as well as how Progressive Era women expanded their roles in society as consumers, reformers, educators, and professionals. The highlight of the evening will be a fun and factual presentation that uncovers details of the very private life of Julia Morgan from family, to Paris, to San Simeon called “Julia Morgan: Myths and Truths”. 
 
Dr. McNeil’s work has been supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Autry National Center, the Bancroft Library, and the University of California Humanities Research Institute and she has taught architectural history at colleges and universities in the San Francisco Bay Area and has been involved in historic preservation, authoring several context statements and successfully nominating buildings to the National Register of Historic Places. Currently, she is the Director of Family History at Ascent Private Capital Investment of U.S Bank and a board director of the Berkeley City Club Conservancy.
